I have worked at Summerside Kindergarten for nearly 10 years, joining after I left school and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

Over the years I have gained my SVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Childcare and I am now completing my BA Childhood Practice through an open learning course.

I am the Nursery Manager, but I am still fully involved on a day-to-day basis with working with the children. I am based in the Pre-School room, which I really enjoy. The best thing about the nursery is the relationships the staff has with each other, and I believe this encourages the children to form great friendships amongst themselves as well.

I enjoy that I monitor all the rooms so I am able to experience working with all age groups. In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends.

I came to Summerside Kindergarten in 1992 as a student from Stevenson College. At that time I was studying to work with special needs and pre-birth to five-year-olds.

I became employed at the nursery in 1993 and have been here ever since.

I have gained my SVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education qualifications and have attended many short courses in childcare and on the CfE (Curriculum for Excellence).

Over the years I have worked with all age groups and for the past five years I have been Head of Pre School. I now work on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and in my free time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and my dog.

I started working at Summerside Kindergarten in 1992, initially it was for four weeks holiday cover but I am still here 22 years later.

I have seen many children through the years and they are all different which makes the job very interesting. I have completed all my training while working at the nursery from NAMCW, NC in Childcare, HNC and PDA in Early Years in Childcare. I am now also looking into doing my BA in Childcare.

I like working at Summerside Kindergarten because it is small and friendly. We have a lovely group of staff and we all get on really well. I like seeing the children develop and grow from Babies through to Tweenies and then Pre-School. In my spare time I like going to the cinema and eating out while I also love spending time with family.

I have been working at Summerside Kindergarten for the last five years. In that time I have achieved my SVQ Level 2 and 3 in Childcare. Whilst I was doing my training I had great support from other members of staff at Summerside.

I now work as head of the Tweenie room with Demi working alongside me. I really enjoy working with Demi as we work well together. I enjoy working at Summerside because I get to work with children of all ages and I get to see different stages of their development. I also like that we have the opportunity to communicate with the parents on a day-to-day basis and the fact that we all work together as a team.

All staff are open to new ideas and share experiences throughout the nursery.

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and friends. I like spending time with my colleagues when we do our team building events too.

I first came to Summerside Kindergarten as a pupil and a number of years later I came back to work here. I completed my work experience, helped out with some relief work and became a full-time member of staff and have since been promoted to Assistant Manager and work closely with Michelle and Nicky.

I am currently based in the Older Babies room and work alongside Janette and Jade I do enjoy being able to spend time in all the other rooms too, seeing the children grow and develop. I have gained my SVQ Level 3 in Childcare since being here and go on all the relevant courses to keep up to date.

I enjoy working at Summerside alongside my colleagues who are very supportive, we work closely as a team and all socialise outside of work. I like how we know all of the children and families well and that we have the opportunity to care for and support all the children.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends and taking weekend trips away.

Katherine Cassidy bigger photoKatherine Cassidy - Relief Work

I have been working as a relief member of staff at Summerside Kindergarten since March 2014. I have always loved working with children and was delighted to have the opportunity to be part of such a great team.

I enjoy working as part of the Summerside team and have gained a lot of knowledge from the experienced staff. What makes Summerside special for me is that I have the opportunity to work with all the children across all the developmental stages in the Baby, Tweenies and Pre school rooms.

I am currently studying at the University of Edinburgh a MA Primary Education degree in hope of becoming a teacher.

I have worked at Summerside Kindergarten for three years and I am passionate about working with and teaching about plants and their biodiversity.

I am especially proud of our allotment, which we have developed from a plot full of waist-high weeds to a beautiful and highly productive plot. The children like nothing better than spending time there planting, sowing seeds and exploring the natural world in a wonderful outdoor learning environment.

The nursery is a very forward-thinking and welcoming place to work and everyone gets along really well supports each other.

I was very lucky to complete my honours degree BSc Horticulture with Plantsmanship at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh in 2011 and I continue to conduct plant research there part-time.

I first worked at Summerside Kindergarten in 1998 I then had a change in career, but continued to do relief work.

I returned to Summerside full time in 2007 since then I have achieved my childcare qualifications and continue to attend personal development courses. I now undertake an administration role for Summerside Kindergarten & Pre School. I very much miss working with the children although I am lucky enough to get to drive the minibus for our many outings.

I enjoy spending time with my family especially weekends away in our caravan, I am kept very busy with my three children who have all attended Summerside.
